Michael J. Engle, Esquire is a Philadelphia based lawyer who concentrates his practice in the area of state and federal criminal defense as well as civil litigation matters. Mr. Engle’s criminal practice has included cases ranging from simple traffic court matters to complex white-collar prosecutions. Mr. Engle has handled numerous cases in state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, and his practice includes the representation of individuals, professionals as well as corporate clients. Mr. Engle has won numerous criminal trials throughout his career including an acquittal for his client in a ten week federal racketeering (RICO) case involving eight members of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation, as well as winning an acquittal for his client in the IRS’s tax fraud conspiracy prosecution involving employees and associates of the Commonwealth Trust Company.
Mr. Engle is a graduate of Villanova University, summa cum laude, and the George Washington University Law School. Currently, Mr. Engle serves as the President of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (PACDL). Previously, he has been the Chairperson for the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the Board of Directors for PACDL, and served as the PACDL Vice President for the Eastern District of PA. Mr. Engle is an active member of the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel for the Federal District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania as well as the Federal Bar Association, Criminal Law Committee. Mr. Engle is also a member of the University of Pennsylvania Law School American Inn of Court and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
Mr. Engle is a former adjunct professor in the criminal justice department of Delaware County Community College, where he taught classes on criminal law, criminal procedure and juvenile delinquency. Mr. Engle is a published author of three academic articles in the fields of sociology and criminology, and he is also a frequent lecturer at Villanova University where he discusses the topic of serial murder in the Social Psychiatry class of Dr. Bernard J. Gallagher, III..
