Drug Offenses

Drug possession and distribution are among the most common crimes in the Maryland judicial system. Our lawyers have represented hundreds of clients successfully against a variety of drug charges. It is critical that if you are charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), Drug Paraphernalia, Possession With Intent to Distribute, or any drug related charge, that you consult with a lawyer immediately so that he or she can begin building your defense.

Most drug cases deal with possession, which is not as simple a definition as many defendant’s think. Possession concerns where the drugs were found in relation to your person, whether you owned the place where they were found (car or house for example), whether you even knew you were in possession of drugs, and who you were with at the time. These and other factors are important ways in which the state tries to build a case against you and a defense attorney is essential in protecting your interests.

Police who investigate drug charges have to follow very specific, constitutionally outlined procedures when investigating these crimes.  Drug cases often hinge on technicalities and statements made by defendants or other parties during investigation. If you have been charged with drug possession do not help the police build a case against you by making any statements, contact our office immediately and speak with an attorney.

Assault

Assault cases in Maryland vary in severity from Second Degree Assault (Simple Assault) to Assault With a Deadly Weapon. Our skilled attorneys are comfortable in defending a client with any assault charge. An experienced defense attorney will analyze the circumstances of an assault charge and develop a comprehensive strategy to emphasize the weaknesses in the prosecutions’ case. Defense attorneys can add context to the crime, aggressively negotiate with prosecutors, and guarantee the best possible outcome for your case.

Our attorneys have defended many people accused of assault, and know the best way to structure a case to minimize its impact on your life. Our attorneys have walked people out of court who, if convicted, would have served several years in jail. You deserve a lawyer who can deliver the highest possible quality of representation. Our office will look at the facts of your assault case in an initial consultation and determine a fee agreement that is both fair and reasonable.

Armed Robbery

An Armed Robbery or Robbery charge in Maryland should be taken very seriously. These cases are among some of the most complex to litigate, and our expert knowledge of the criminal justice system will allow us to give you the best possible defense.

Robbery and Armed Robbery in Maryland carry maximum possible sentences of 15 and 20 years respectively. An experienced criminal defense litigator at your side will navigate the justice system with you. Armed Robbery includes crimes that have been committed when the accused is alleged to have possessed a weapon during the act of robbery. Actual possession is not necessary when determining the difference between armed and unarmed robbery. As with most crimes, upon arrest you should refuse to make a statement until you have consulted with an attorney. Even if you do not think you have a fighting chance, there are many technical details that both police and prosecutors must follow for a case to be viable. Our attorneys are experts in finding vulnerabilities and oversights in a case and using them to your advantage.

Murder/Manslaughter

If you or someone you know has been charged with Murder or Manslaughter in Maryland you must seek counsel immediately. The attorneys at The Law Office of David Benowitz will work with you and your family through every stage of this case to assure your rights and interests are protected. Our office employs a team of experienced investigators and experts prepared to thoroughly prepare your defense.

Murder and Manslaughter have very separate and distinct definitions and are among the most serious crimes in Maryland. Penalties range from several years in prison up to life without parole and even the death penalty. These lengthy and complex cases require a team of expertly trained highly skilled and well experienced professionals to be handled successfully.
